Do you live near Lake Travis and want fresh veggies for that seasonal holiday dish or homemade soup? Why not give the gift that keeps on giving and go local this Christmas? Head out to the Lakeway Commons Farmers Market and discover fresh fall citrus fruits and harvest items, like spinach, kale, broccoli, winter squash, carrots, beets, green beans, and cauliflower. You’ll taste the difference, with produce picked ripe and sold that very day.
“The Lakeway Commons Farmers Market is focused on providing the surrounding neighborhoods with local, healthy, affordable food,” says owner and manager Richie Romero. “You can meet the farmers who grow your food, ask when it was picked, how it was grown, and ways to prepare it. We often cater to hardcore foodies on the lookout for quality produce.”
Romero sits behind a desk during the week directing video game art and animation for Sony. On the weekends, he and his son always have loved visiting Austin-area farmers’ markets. “It not only got us out, but offered a great sense of community. It was one place I really wanted to get involved.”
Instantly, his family-friendly farmers’ market in Lakeway was born. It provides free live music and entertainment from local artists and is the perfect place for holiday gift buying with a fantastic array of products from local artisans and small crafters, not to mention baked goods, hot tamales, homemade jellies and jams, fresh pies, local honey, and salsa!
Lakeway Commons Farmers Market is minutes away for Lake Travis and Steiner Ranch residents. Not only will a trip save shoppers from the holiday rush at their conventional grocery, but it’s also a great way to go green. Did you know buying locally-grown produce encourages regional farmers, saves fuel and resources spent on long distance shipping, and stimulates the local economy?
Romero is committed to making economic and educational connections between residents and local farmers. “Small family farms are essential to local, sustainable agriculture. Our vendors have to come from within a hundred miles and have grown what they sell.”
Got kids? Bring them out Sunday, December 18th for animated storybook readings and performances by Rudy Roberson, a children’s musical director who recently toured with Broadway’s The Lion King!
You can find the Lakeway Commons Farmers Market every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m at the intersection of RR 620 and Lakeway Blvd. The sixteen booths stand in the parking lot of the Lakeway Commons Shopping Center, which houses Rocco’s Grill and a Starbucks. The street address is 900 Ranch Road 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734.
