Since 1987, when its sold-out production The Magic Flute by Mozart debuted to stellar reviews, the Austin Lyric Opera (ALO) has been a cultural touchstone for the fine arts community of Central Texas, from Lake Travis to Legend Oaks.
“We’re closing our celebratory 25th anniversary season with Puccini’s final opera Turandot,” says Marketing Director Marc van Bree. “This lush, new production—which opened a brand new performing arts center in Kansas City just last Fall—stars American sensation Lise Lindstrom as the icy princess Turandot, a role she has sung to great acclaim at major international houses such as the Met, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. The elaborate sets, beautiful Chinese costumes, and a large chorus and cast of extras on the stage, really make this a feast for the eyes and ears. Plus, you won’t want to miss Frank Porretta in ‘Nessun dorma’, perhaps opera’s most famous aria!”
Co-founded by Joseph McClain and Dr. Walter Ducloux, the ALO has an American reputation as an innovator and a showcase for new talent. It also serves as one of the founding resident companies of The Long Center, along with Ballet Austin and Austin Symphonic Orchestra.
