Possible Arts District for Lakeway

The Lakeway City Council is considering designating about 130 acres behind the new Oaks of Lakeway retail development on RM 620 as an arts district. According to the City of Lakeway website, the arts district “would capitalize on Lakeway’s style and quality of life, its visual and performing arts, the city’s juxtaposition between Austin and the Hill Country, and Lakeway’s popular hometown events.”

Deputy City Manager Chessie Zimmerman said, “We are envisioning a place for all the different kinds of performing and visual arts to come together, whether that means multiple buildings, museums, galleries, a science center, children’s activities, or a sculpture garden. It would be the home for all the different arts in our community.” A proposed performing arts center also could be located in the district.
