The Lake Travis Independent School District approved a tax rate of $1.3239 per $100 valuation for its 2020-21 budget, the lowest district tax rate when accounting for inflation since the 1980s, according to Community Impact. It is a $0.02 drop from the 2019-20 rate.
The district may have a deficit this school year of around $1.8 million, based on factors such as school enrollment and drops in sports and recreation income. However, Assistant Superintendent of Financial, Business and Auxiliary Services Johnny Hill said, “I do believe that we will make adjustments as we go through the year. But we’re also very well financially positioned to take care of any kind of unforeseen events.”
Community Impact quoted him as saying, “Even though we start out with a $1.8 million deficit, it is possible as we make adjustments and go through the year that we can make that up, and we’ll make every effort to do that.”
