The Lake Travis Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously adopted a resolution this week allowing the creation of a district police force. A dedicated police department was determined to be in the district’s best interests due to the district’s size and projected student enrollment growth.

“The Administration believes that a comprehensive district-based police department, whose jurisdiction would encompass all territory within the boundaries of the District, will serve to enhance the safety and security of the entire District,” said the agenda item from the School Board meeting where the item was approved.

Three Travis County deputies currently serve as School Resource Officers for the district, but the agreement expires on July 31, 2021. Funds are expected to come from the 2018 Bond Program and the 2021-2022 General Fund Budget.
